Macrophage Colony stimulating Factor (M-CSF) is a hematopoietic growth factor produced by lymphocytes, monocytes, fibroblasts, macrophages, bone marrow stromal cells and endothelial cells. M-CSF plays important roles in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival of blood monocytes, tissue macrophages and their respective progenitor cells. M-CSF also enhances macrophage killing of tumor cells and microorganisms, regulates the release of cytokines from macrophages. MCSF plays critical roles in bone metabolism, immunological defenses, lipoproteins clearance, fertility and pregnancy.
The human M-CSF cDNA encodes a 554 aa protein contains a 32 aa signal sequence. Human M-CSF is active in the mouse, while mouse M-CSF is species-specific. Recombinant human M-CSF is a 36.8 kDa homodimeric protein containing two 159 amino acid polypeptide subunits.
Determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of murine M-NSF-60 cells. | ||||||
