SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are tricyclic antidepressants that block synaptic serotonin reuptake in the presynapse and elevated serotonin levels in the presynaptic membrane. They are used for treatment of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, chronic pain and panic disorders etc.
