Description

N1-Methyl-ATP is a modified nucleoside triphosphate in which the adenine nucleobase is methylated at the N1 position. This modification alters the chemical properties of adenosine, significantly affecting the structure and function of RNA and DNA. N1-Methyl-ATP can be incorporated into RNA molecules during in vitro transcription reactions, generating RNA containing N1-methyladenosine. Such modification interferes with the interactions between RNA and nucleic acid binding proteins, thus affecting RNA secondary structures and functionality. N1-Methyl-ATP is commonly used to study the role of RNA and DNA methylation in gene expression regulation, particularly in mRNA translation initiation and control. Furthermore, as abnormal RNA methylation is linked to many viruses and cancers, N1-Methyl-ATP also holds potential applications in the development of antiviral drugs and cancer therapies.
