Background

[Nle4,D-Phe7]-α-MSH (CAS No.: 75921-69-6) is a synthetic analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). As a non-selective melanocortin receptor (MCR) agonist, it can bind to MC1, MC3, MC4, and MC5 receptors, with Ki values of 0.085, 0.4, 3.8, and 5.1 nM, respectively. It mainly promotes melanin production by activating MC1R, thereby inducing skin pigmentation. In in vitro studies, [Nle4,D-Phe7]-α-MSH is approximately 26-fold more active than native α-MSH. This compound is commonly used in research on sunlight-induced skin cancer, melanoma, inflammation, and male erectile dysfunction. In cell and animal models, it is typically administered via subcutaneous or intravenous injection, with the specific dose and concentration depending on the experimental design and research objectives.
