Background

EDTA-AM (ethylenediaminetetraaceticacid, acetoxymethylester) is the membrane-permeable form of the metal ion chelator EDTA. Living cells are loaded with EDTA-AM by incubation with EDTA-AM, which separates intracellular metal ions once internalized cytoplasmic esterases break down the AM, releasing the active ligand EDTA.EDTA-AM induces the arrest of mitotic progression and chromosome depolymerization.
