Background

Visfatin also known as Pre-B cell colony enhancing factor, Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, Pre-B-cell colony-enhancing factor 1 homolog, NAmPRTase, Nampt, PBEF. Visfatin is a novel adipocytokine produced by visceral fat. AMP-activated protein kinase phosphorylation in mouse C2C12 skeletal muscle cells is increased by visfatin. Visfatin increase glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) mRNA and protein levels and stimulate the translocation of GLUT4 to the plasma membrane.
