Background

Uridine-5'-O-(3-thiotriphosphate) (UTP-γ-S) is a hydrolysis-resistant derivative of UTP and an agonist of the purinergic P2Y2 receptor. It induces inositol phosphate production in 1321N1 astrocytoma cells expressing the human P2Y2 receptor (EC₅₀ = 240 nM) and induces chloride secretion in a concentration-dependent manner in primary nasal epithelial cells from cystic fibrosis patients. Additionally, UTP-γ-S triggers vasoconstriction in isolated human coronary arteries (EC₅₀ = 25.1 μM).
