Umbelliferone
Umbelliferone (CAS 93-35-6) is a naturally occurring coumarin derivative isolated from the mature fruit of Citrus medica L. var. sarcodactylis. It is known to modulate oxidative stress and inflammation by scavenging free radicals and influencing key cellular pathways involved in redox balance. Umbelliferone’s mechanisms include inhibition of lipid peroxidation and modulation of enzymes such as cytochrome P450s and nitric oxide synthase. It is utilized in biomedical research for studying antioxidant activity, liver protection, anti-inflammatory effects, and as a fluorometric probe in biochemical assays.
