Raji is derived from the left maxilla of an 11-year-old black boy with Burkitt's lymphoma in 1963. Raji is the first continuous human hematopoietic cell lines. Raji cells carry the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) genome and act as a suitable transfection host.
