causes whooping cough
Featured Products
Pertussis toxin (CAS: 70323-44-3) is an AB5-type protein exotoxin produced by Bordetella pertussis, the bacterium responsible for whooping cough. Mechanistically, pertussis toxin modulates host immune responses primarily via a cAMP-dependent pathway, as demonstrated by its actions on human monocyte-derived dendritic cells, influencing their maturation and cytokine production. In animal models, treatment reduces norepinephrine-induced contractions in rat mesenteric resistance arteries without notable effects on mouse tracheal contractility. Pertussis toxin serves as a research tool in immunological studies and is central to acellular pertussis vaccines designed to limit disease transmission and severity across susceptible populations.
