Monocaprylin
Monocaprylin (CAS No.: 26402-26-6) is a naturally occurring monoglyceride belonging to the monoacylglycerol class, widely present in plant and animal lipids and of interest in biochemical and pharmacological research due to its amphiphilic properties and involvement in membrane-associated processes. As a lipid-derived molecule, it is studied for its capacity to modulate cellular membrane dynamics and influence intracellular signaling pathways, with evidence from related monoacylglycerols suggesting roles in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis through interactions with lipid-sensitive signaling cascades. Monocaprylin has also demonstrated notable antimicrobial activity in vitro, inhibiting a broad spectrum of microorganisms, which supports its use as a model compound for investigating membrane disruption mechanisms and host–microbe interactions. Although direct target identification remains limited, its biological effects are generally attributed to perturbation of lipid bilayers and modulation of signaling pathways linked to lipid metabolism and stress responses. In experimental systems, monoacylglycerols including Monocaprylin typically exhibit activity in the nanomolar to micromolar range, depending on cellular context and assay conditions. It is commonly utilized in cell-based assays and preclinical models to explore lipid-mediated signaling, antimicrobial mechanisms, and compound screening workflows, with applied concentrations or dosing regimens determined by specific experimental objectives.
