Background

Glutamate Dehydrogenase (GDH) is a pivotal enzyme linking carbon and nitrogen metabolism, catalyzing the reversible oxidative deamination of glutamate to α-ketoglutarate. Elevated serum GDH activity is closely associated with hepatocellular injury or carcinogenesis, making GDH a sensitive biomarker for evaluating liver function and facilitating early-stage liver cancer screening. It also offers supportive information for the differential diagnosis of neurological, renal, and other related diseases.

This kit enables rapid and accurate determination of GDH activity. In the assay, GDH catalyzes the oxidative deamination of glutamate, reducing NAD+ to NADH. With the aid of an electron transfer mediator, NADH reduces WST-8 to produce a stable, orange-yellow formazan dye with a maximal absorbance at 450 nm. GDH activity is quantified by measuring the rate of absorbance change (ΔA/min). The kit offers high sensitivity for detecting trace enzymatic activity, a streamlined protocol that requires no specialized instrumentation, and broad compatibility with diverse sample types, including serum, tissue homogenates, and cell lysates—making it ideal for high-throughput analysis.
