Background

Cyhalothrin (CAS No.: 39515-41-8) is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide widely used in agriculture and households. Its primary mechanism of action is to interfere with the kinetics of voltage-gated sodium ion channels, leading to paralysis and death in pests. In biomedical research, cyhalothrin is used to study its effects on the nervous system, particularly the potential mechanisms by which it may induce Parkinson’s disease-like symptoms. In vitro studies have shown that cyhalothrin can induce neuronal apoptosis, reduce mitochondrial membrane potential, and generate reactive oxygen species, and these effects are dose- and time-dependent. In cell models, cyhalothrin is commonly used to investigate its neurotoxic effects on neurons, and the dose or concentration used in experiments typically depends on the experimental design and research objectives. In addition, studies on the cyhalothrin-degrading strain HY1 have shown that this strain is capable of degrading cyhalothrin, providing a potential biological approach for soil remediation.
