Ditiocarb sodium
Ditiocarb (CAS: 148-18-5) sodium is the sodium salt of Ditiocarb. Ditiocarbis a potent copper-chelating agent and copper ionophore widely used to manipulate intracellular copper homeostasis. Ditiocarb readily coordinates Cu2+ to form a stable, electrically neutral, lipophilic copper complex that efficiently traverses biological membranes and delivers copper into cells. Following cellular uptake, copper is transferred from the dithiocarb complex to endogenous high-affinity ligands, including glutathione (GSH) and sulfur-containing amino acids such as cysteine (Cys) and methionine (Met), as well as histidine (His), through ligand-exchange reactions. Intracellular reducing agents subsequently convert Cu2+ to the more biologically active Cu+, thereby increasing the pool of bioavailable copper. Owing to its efficient copper delivery capability, Ditiocarb is widely employed in studies of copper metabolism, copper-dependent signaling pathways, and cuproptosis.
In addition, dithiocarb compounds have been investigated in several therapeutic fields. In antiviral research, certain dithiocarb derivatives have been reported to reduce the incidence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. In oncology and immunology studies, dithiocarb compounds have demonstrated immunomodulatory activity and have been evaluated as potential adjuvants for enhancing antitumor immune responses in high-risk breast cancer.
