Cy5.5-UTP is uridine triphosphate (UTP) labeled with Cy5.5 fluorescent dye. Cy5.5 is a near-infrared fluorescent dye with long excitation and emission wavelengths (typically around 675 nm and 694 nm), which makes it very useful in bioimaging and molecular biology research, as near-infrared light is able to penetrate biological tissues and reduce interference from background and autofluorescence. Cy5.5-UTP can be recognized by RNA polymerase and incorporated into newly synthesized RNA molecules, allowing the RNA molecules to be visualized under fluorescence microscopy. This labeling method has important applications in studying the synthesis, localization and dynamic changes of RNA.
