Chitinase (EC 3.2.1.14) has partial lysozyme activity and is widely found in bacteria, fungi, animals, and some plants.Chitinase belongs to the glycosyl hydrolase family.Chitinase catalyzes the hydrolysis of chitooligosaccharides by soybean chitinases.Chitinase can also be used as a prognostic biomarker of disease progression. Chitinase can be used to study the pathogenesis of various human fibrotic and inflammatory diseases, especially in the lungs (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, tuberculosis, and asthma) and the gastrointestinal tract (inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer).
