Background

Abatacept is a recombinant protein fused with human immunoglobulin IgG1 and the extracellular domain of CTLA-4. It inhibits T cell co-stimulatory signals, thereby reducing T cell activation, and is mainly used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Abatacept binds to CD80/CD86 molecules on antigen-presenting cells, blocking their interaction with CD28 molecules on T cells, thereby inhibiting T cell activation.
