2-Hydroxyemodin is the active metabolite of rhodopsin in liver microsomes. Rhodopsin is an anthraquinone present in fungal metabolites and rhubarb components. In the absence of an activation system, 2-Hydroxyemodin was mutagenic to Salmonella typhimurium TA1537.
