12-Oxochenodeoxycholic acid
12-Ketochenodeoxycholic acid is a direct precursor of Chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA). As an intermediate product of bile acid metabolism, it can be converted into CDCA in the liver under the catalysis of hydroxylase. CDCA is an important drug used in clinical practice to treat cholesterol gallstones. By inhibiting cholesterol synthesis and promoting the conversion of cholesterol into bile acids, it reduces the saturation of cholesterol in bile, thereby exerting a chemotherapy effect of dissolving gallstones. It is often used for conservative treatment of non-calcifying and X-ray permeable cholesterol stones.
