Erdosteine
Erdosteine (CAS: 84611-23-4) is a thiol-containing mucolytic agent and antioxidant. It is designed to reduce mucus viscosity and oxidative stress in the respiratory tract. Erdosteine exerts its biological activity primarily through its active metabolites, which possess a free thiol group capable of cleaving disulfide bonds within respiratory mucus glycoproteins, thereby facilitating mucociliary clearance. Additionally, its metabolites demonstrate antioxidative properties by scavenging reactive oxygen species. Erdosteine holds potential in the study of mucus hypersecretion, oxidative stress damage, inflammation, and respiratory disorders.
