SM-102
SM-102 is an ionizable cationic lipid that serves as a cornerstone component in Lipid Nanoparticle (LNP) systems for the delivery of mRNA vaccines and gene therapies.
● Key Function: It remains neutral at physiological pH to minimize toxicity, but becomes positively charged in the acidic environment of the endosome. This allows for efficient encapsulation of negatively charged mRNA and facilitates its intracellular release.
● Applications: Widely used in the development of prophylactic vaccines (e.g., COVID-19 mRNA vaccines), cancer immunotherapy, and gene-editing therapeutics.
● Advantages: Features high transfection efficiency, excellent biodegradability, and a proven clinical safety profile.
