Norcholic acid
Norcholic acid, a C23 bile acid with four side chains, is present in human urine and meconium. Under normal physiological conditions, its content is relatively low, but under certain pathological conditions (such as bile acid metabolism disorders or liver and gallbladder diseases), its concentration can significantly increase, becoming a prominent metabolic marker. In terms of metabolism in the body, Norcholic acid can be efficiently absorbed by the intestines, enter the liver through the portal vein and be rapidly excreted into bile, but it is not excreted into urine through the kidneys. This characteristic is closely related to its directional transport in the hepatointestinal circulation.
