Prostratin

Prostratin (CAS No.: 60857-08-1) is a naturally occurring diterpenoid and non-tumor-promoting phorbol ester derived from plant sources, widely utilized as a bioactive small molecule in biomedical research. It functions as a potent activator of protein kinase C (PKC), exhibiting high-affinity interaction in the nanomolar range, and modulates downstream signaling pathways including NF-κB activation. Through these mechanisms, Prostratin has been shown to regulate diverse cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis, and to influence disease-relevant pathways in oncology and neurodegenerative disorders. Notably, it induces reactivation of latent HIV-1 reservoirs in infected T cell models at low micromolar concentrations, while simultaneously downregulating cell surface expression of CD4 and co-receptors CXCR4 and CCR5, thereby limiting viral spread.
