Background

α-Muricholic acid is the most abundant primary bile acid in rodents and is mainly secreted into bile after being synthesized from cholesterol in the liver. As a bile acid unique to rodents, it can be further metabolized by microorganisms in the intestinal tract into secondary bile acids, which participate in regulating lipid absorption, energy metabolism and intestinal homeostasis.
