Recombinant Mouse IFN-gamma
Interferon-γ (IFN-γ), also known as type II interferon or immune interferon, is a cytokine produced primarily by T lymphocytes and natural killer cells. This protein has no significant homology to IFN-β or various IFN-α family proteins. Mature IFN-γ exists as a non-covalently linked homodimer. It shares high-sequence identity with rat IFN-γ (86%). IFN-γ was initially characterized based on its antiviral activity. The protein also exerts antiproliferative, immunomodulatory, and pro-inflammatory activities, making it important in host defense mechanisms. IFN-γ induces cytokine production and upregulates the expression of class I and II MHC antigens, Fc receptors, and leukocyte adhesion molecules. It regulates macrophage effector function; Affects isotype switching and enhances B cell secretion of immunoglobulins. In addition, IFN-γ enhances TH1 cell expansion and may be required for TH1 cell differentiation.
