Chlorpromazine
Chlorpromazine (CAS 50-53-3) is a phenothiazine-class antipsychotic agent widely studied and utilized in biomedical research. It acts primarily by antagonizing postsynaptic dopamine D2 receptors within the mesolimbic neuronal pathway, providing therapeutic effects for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and psychotic episodes. Additionally, chlorpromazine exerts antiemetic properties through simultaneous blockade of dopamine D2, histamine H1, and muscarinic M1 receptors within central vomiting centers, thus supporting its experimental use in nausea and vomiting models. It is typically available as hydrochloride salt formulations for oral and injectable administration or in base form as suppositories.
