Betulinic acid
Betulinic acid (CAS 472-15-1) is a pentacyclic triterpenoid obtained from natural sources, exhibiting pharmacological properties relevant to oncology and infectious diseases research. It induces apoptosis selectively in tumor cells by engaging mitochondrial apoptotic pathways independently of both p53 and CD95 signaling. Additionally, betulinic acid functions as an agonist for the bile acid receptor TGR5, demonstrating activity with an EC50 of approximately 1.04 μM. Due to its apoptotic effects and antiviral properties, betulinic acid is extensively utilized in preclinical studies exploring cancer therapeutics and anti-HIV strategies.
