3-Methylindole

3-Methylindole (CAS No.: 83-34-1) is an endogenous tryptophan-derived metabolite, also known as skatole, that is produced by intestinal microbiota and naturally occurs in the gastrointestinal tract of mammals as well as in certain plants, classifying it as a microbiome-associated heterocyclic aromatic compound of relevance to gut physiology and toxicology.
