Zymosan A is a polysaccharide compound extracted from the cell wall of yeast, mainly from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Zymosan A activates the immune system, in particular by binding to pattern recognition receptors such as toll-like receptor 2 and Dectin-1, inducing immune cells to produce cytokines and other inflammatory mediators. Due to its strong immune-stimulating effect, Zymosan A is also used to develop and test the effectiveness of anti-inflammatory drugs.
