ZK53 is a selective activator of mitochondrial casein hydrolase protease P (EC:1.37?μM for HsClpP hydrolyzed α-casein).ZK53 was inactive against bacterial ClpP proteins.ZK53 induced apoptosis in H1703, H520 and SK-MES-1 cells.ZK53 induced mitochondrial dysfunction in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) cells. ZK53 inhibited tumor growth in an H1703 xenograft mouse model.
