Ponceau S (sodium salt)
Ponceau S (sodium salt, CAS No. 6226-79-5) is a stain that enables the rapid and reversible detection of proteins immobilized on various matrices, such as nitrocellulose and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes. It is commonly used to visualize protein bands and assess the efficiency of protein transfer during blotting procedures. Reversible staining with Ponceau S has also been validated as an alternative to actin probing for use as a loading control. Additionally, this stain can serve as a fiducial marker in mass spectrometric imaging.
