Leucomycin
Leucomycin (CAS No.: 1392-21-8) is a multi-component 16-membered macrolide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces kitasatoensis, widely utilized as a reference compound in microbiology and drug discovery research focused on ribosome-targeting agents. It exerts its antibacterial activity by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, specifically interacting with 23S rRNA, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis; resistance is commonly associated with mutations at key rRNA residues such as A2058 and A2059.
