Fluo-3 and the related molecule Fluo3/AM are used as fluorescent indicators of intracellular calcium (Ca).Fluo-3 can be used in flow cytometry and confocal laser scanning microscopy using visible light excitation (compatible with argon laser sources operating at 488 nm). Calcium binding increases fluorescence intensity approximately 40-fold.
