Background

Ulex Europaeus Agglutinin (UEA) is a plant lectin known for its anti-H blood group specificity. This lectin primarily exists in two types: UEA I specifically binds to L-fucose , while UEA II binds to N,N′-diacetylchitobiose. Regarding the molecular weight of UEA I, initial studies reported it as 170 kDa, but subsequent research indicates that UEA I may form aggregates at neutral or basic pH, and its accurate molecular weight is 68 kDa.
This product is Ulex Europaeus Agglutinin I (UEA I) labeled with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), known as FITC-UEA-I. The conjugate is purified by affinity chromatography  and exhibits excellent fluorescent properties, with an excitation maximum (Ex) of approximately 494 nm and an emission maximum (Em) of approximately 520 nm.
FITC-UEA-I specifically binds to various glycoproteins and glycolipids containing α-linked fucose residues , such as ABO blood group glycoconjugates. It preferentially binds to O type blood cells , and is therefore commonly used for blood group typing and determining secretor status. Furthermore, FITC-UEA-I is recognized as an excellent marker for human endothelial cells.
This conjugate is widely applicable in various biological and medical research applications, including immunohistochemistry (IHC)/immunocytochemistry (ICC)  , flow cytometry, blotting applications, ELISA , and basic glycobiology research. It is also listed as a biomarker for various cancers, such as genitourinary tract cancer, endometrial carcinoma, and lung cancer.
