Ehrlich's Hematoxylin Stain Solution
Ehrlich hematoxylin is similar to Delafield hematoxylin in that both are forms of naturally oxidized hematoxylin. They are converted into hematein through natural oxidation by exposure to light and air. Although this process is relatively slow, typically taking 3 to 6 months, the staining capacity can be maintained for a long time. As an excellent nuclear stain, Ehrlich hematoxylin is also suitable for mucin staining, such as the mucopolysaccharides in cartilage, as well as for the staining of bone and cartilage.
The Ehrlich hematoxylin staining solution provides clear and detailed visualization of nuclear chromatin; however, the staining duration is relatively long, approximately 15-20 min. It is suitable for paraffin section staining and is widely used in teaching and research. Nevertheless, it is not ideal for frozen section staining.
