Droxidopa

Droxidopa (CAS No.: 23651-95-8) is a synthetic amino acid precursor and a prodrug of norepinephrine, mainly used to treat conditions such as neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (NOH). Its mechanism of action involves conversion in vivo to norepinephrine via aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AAAD), thereby increasing norepinephrine levels in the peripheral and central nervous systems, enhancing vasoconstriction, and improving blood pressure regulation. In vitro studies show that Droxidopa can effectively increase the synthesis and release of norepinephrine, with activity typically in the low micromolar range. In cell and animal models, Droxidopa is commonly used to evaluate its effects on blood pressure regulation and neurotransmitter levels, and the doses or concentrations used in experiments typically depend on the experimental design and research objectives.
