Avrainvillamide ((+)-Avrainvillamide) is a naturally occurring alkaloid with antiproliferative effects that binds to the nuclear chaperone nucleophosmin, an oncogenic protein overexpressed in many different human tumors.Avrainvillamide affects these proteins by inhibiting their binding to certain natural cellular partners. Cell Biology. The antibiotic Avrainvillamide, also an antibiotic, inhibits the growth of multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Enterococcus faecalis with MICs of 12.5, 12.5, and 25 μg/ml, respectively.
