Acetoacetic acid sodium salt
Acetoacetic acid sodium is an important non-esterified fatty acid metabolite, belonging to one of ketone bodies. Ketone bodies are the products of the catabolism of fatty acids in the liver, mainly including acetoacetic acid, beta-hydroxybutyric acid and acetone. Sodium acetoacetate can be rapidly converted into acetoacetic acid in the body, which is involved in energy metabolism processes, and levels are closely related to the development of diabetes. In diabetic patients, due to insufficient or limited insulin secretion, glucose utilization is impaired, and the body turns to provide energy through lipolysis, producing a large number of ketone bodies. High levels of ketones can lead to ketoacidosis, a serious complication of diabetes. Sodium acetoacetate is one of the representative substances of ketone body, the increase of its concentration is a sign of metabolic imbalance in diabetic patients.
