β-Hydroxybutyrate (β-HB) Colorimetric Assay Kit
β-Hydroxybutyrate (β-HB) is a beta hydroxy acid and is synthesized from acetyl-CoA by β-HB dehydrogenase in the liver. When circulating insulin levels drop to very low levels, the supply of glucose to the body is shut off, which then lead to diabetic ketoacidosis. The physiological response is to produce ketone bodies (β-hydroxybutyrate, acetoacetate, acetone) from the acetyl CoA in the liver. The high rate of ketone body production outstrips the body’s utilization ability, which then led to a significant drop in blood pH.
The β-Hydroxybutyrate (β-HB) Colorimetric Assay Kit provides a sensitive, fast and convenient way for detection of β-HB levels in various biological samples based on colorimetric method. The assay utilizes β-HB dehydrogenase to yield a product which reacts with our colorimetric probe with an absorbance band at 450 nm. The assay is linear for 1-20 nmol β-HB in up to 100 µl samples or 0.01-0.2 mM of β-HB samples.
